  4.   Handicap Index:
  5.  
  6.       The formula used by GolfCap to produce the Handicap Index has
  7.       been revised to provide results that should match the Handicap
  8.       Index provided by both the United States Golf Association and
  9.       the Royal Canadian Golf Association.

  11.   Differentials:
  12.  
  13.       The Handicap Index is determined based on the differentials
  14.       from a selected number of 18-hole rounds the Golfer has played.
  15.       The criteria for selecting these differentials is as follows:

  24.       10-11    ----   Lowest 4 of all 18-hole rounds
  25.       12-13    ----   Lowest 5 of all 18-hole rounds
  26.       14-15    ----   Lowest 6 of all 18-hole rounds
  27.       16-17    ----   Lowest 7 of all 18-hole rounds
  28.       18       ----   Lowest 8 of all 18-hole rounds
  29.       19       ----   Lowest 9 of all 18-hole rounds
  30.       20       ----   Lowest 10 of all 20 18-hole rounds
  31.       21+      ----   Lowest 10 of LAST 20 18-hole rounds

  33.   >>  Note that when a Golfer has 21 or more rounds of 18 holes, the
  34.   >>  lowest 10 differentials from the last 20 rounds are used.  The
  35.   >>  "last 20 rounds" are based on the last twenty 18-hole rounds
  36.   >>  entered into the GolfCap database.  For this reason it is VERY
  37.   >>  INPORTANT that Game Records be entered in the order they were
  38.   >>  played (by date).  9-hole rounds are recorded but not used in
  39.   >>  handicap computations however they are included in all the stats.

  41.       Differentials are determined by the following method:

  43.       When the Gross Score is higher than the course Rating, the
  44.       course Rating is subtracted from the Gross Score.  When the
  45.       Gross Score is lower than the course Rating, the Gross Score
  46.       is subtracted from the course Rating.  The next step is to
  47.       multiply 113 by the figure from the above calculation then
  48.       dividing that figure by the course Slope.  This figure is
  49.       carried to ONLY ONE decimal place WITHOUT ROUNDING.

  51.       Example:  A Golfer shoots a Score of 86 on a course with a
  52.                 Rating of 71.5  The Rating of 71.5 is subtracted
  53.                 from the Score of 86 giving a result of 14.5
  54.  
  55.                 113 is multilpied by 14.5 giving a result of 1638.5
  56.                 This is divided by 133 producing a Handicap Differential
  57.                 for this game of 12.3

  59.                    113 x 14.5 = 1638.5  = 12.3  (Differential)

  63.       GolfCap automatically determines the Handicap Differential for
  64.       each game at the time it is recorded and saved in the database.

  66.   Course Handicap:

  68.       A Golfer does not play off his/her Handicap Index.  Rather a
  69.       Course Handicap must be determined using the following method:
  70.  
  71.       Multiply the Handicap Index by the Slope value of the
  72.       course being played and divide by 113.  The resulting
  73.       figure is ROUNDED to the nearest whole number (.5 is
  74.       rounded upward).

  76.       Example:  A Golfer with a Handicap Index of 11.7 playing
  77.                 on a course with a Slope value of 133
  78.  
  79.       11.7 x 133 = 1556.1  = 13.7 (round to 14 for Course Handicap)

  83.       To obtain the Slope value of a Course, contact the Club Pro or
  84.       Manager.  In many cases, both the Slope and Rating are listed
  85.       on the score card provided by the Club.

  87.       When adding a Game Record to the database, GolfCap will always
  88.       automatically determine the Course Handicap for that round (if
  89.       the golfer has an established Handicap Index).

  91.       To get a quick Course Handicap use the "Quick Handicap" option
  92.       under the HANDICAP heading at the Main Menu.

  94.   OverAll Differential:
  95.  
  96.       The figure shown as a Golfer's OverAll Differential is based on
  97.       the Golfer's Handicap Index.  This figure can be used to measure
  98.       improvement over days, weeks, months, most improved Golfer, etc.
  99.       It is updated after each new 18-hole game is added to the database.
  100.       After you have recorded 5 18-hole games, make a note of your
  101.       OverAll Differential then compare it to the revised figure after
  102.       your record additional games (if it gets lower, you're improving).

  104.   Other:

  106.       The Handicap Index provided by GolfCap is not to be considered as
  107.       ones "official" Handicap Index.  It is NOT to be used in place of a
  108.       Handicap Index provided by the U.S.G.A. or the R.C.G.A. when you
  109.       are entering tournaments.  The Course Handicap provided by GolfCap
  110.       should match that provided by the U.S.G.A. and the Royal Canadian
  111.       Golf Association (provided the same Slope and Handicap Index values
  112.       are used).

  116.       It is IMPORTANT that Game Records be entered in the order they
  117.       were played (by date) to insure accurate Handicap Index results.
